Sports romances are usually an easy read. Hearts on Thin Ice was unfortunately not that easy of a read. I like the two main characters Nick and Alyssa and how they interact with each other but the story just never fully grabbed me.
Nick is a professional hockey player who was the only survivor of a plane crash. He lost some of his teammates and his best friends. Going forward he didn’t know how to be happy because he was stricken with survivor’s guilt. Alyssa is assigned to decorate Nick’s apartment. Nick chose to have his apartment decorated since the coach gave him an ultimatum, decorate the apartment or go to therapy.
As Nick and Alyssa spend more time together their chemistry is undeniable and written well but there were so many parts of the story away from the core relationship that just dragged on for me.
I wanted Nick to be happy and I wanted him to find that with Alyssa. I just wish they would have been able to do that faster and not have their story dragged on.
If you like sports, specifically hockey romances then definitely give this one a look.
Final score: 3/5
