The Stepsister’s Secret was the book I needed at the perfect time. I was in a bit of a drought with thrillers and just wasn't getting sucked into any new ones I read. The Stepsister’s Secret has so much suspense that I was immediately sucked in.
In this book, it seemed everyone had a secret. Lizzie is happily married, but she has a secret she has been keeping. Her husband Nick also has a secret that has been weighing on him. Lizzie’s mom is getting remarried, and when Lizzie sees her new stepsister Alison, she immediately recognizes her and is brought right back to her deadly secret from her childhood.
Soon after the wedding, Lizzie’s mom had an accident. Alison volunteers to look after her. Lizzie is convinced Alison recognizes her and is out for revenge, and she then goes into a crazy spiral.
The book is told from multiple POVs, including a mystery POV from the antagonist. I don’t think this story was hard to figure out or did anything particularly different in the genre, but it was well written and very well told, and I found it truly gripping.
