What is Game Club? Game Club is part of our podcast Game Bites where we are going to pick a game and play through it and discuss and review it with spoilers. With that said let this be your SPOILER WARNING. Tune into Game Bites for our full review and breakdown.

I own Sleeping Dogs on four different platforms and it made my list for my top 5 favorite games of all time. The game is a delight to play through and has a great story to unfold. You take control of Wei Shen, an undercover Hong Kong police officer, as he infiltrates a triad organization called the Sun On Yee.

n

The story was engaging and went places I was not expecting it to go. You infiltrate the gang, and they become not only your friends, but your family. You have to remember, they are bad, so there will not be a happy ending for them. There is a lot of death and loss surrounding Wei and that turns into a personal vendetta for revenge. Wei somehow makes it out alive and with every play through of this game I can’t believe he makes it.

n

The combat is the shining star of this game and needs to be played and enjoyed by everyone. Unload combo after combo on your enemies and counter them as they try to attack you. The environment is your weapon and you will be using it to your advantage every chance you get.

n

Shooting is a mechanic introduced about a third of the way into the game. Fighting is still the main mechanic, but shooting feels great, even by today’s standards. The game doesn’t just give you a gun, it makes you take a gun. You enter a room with armed enemies and you need to disarm one and take his gun and shoot your way out. Something I don’t recall ever being done in a game before and it was an excellent way to introduce shooting.

n

This game was a 10/10 when I first played it almost ten years ago and today it remains a 10/10. From start to finish the game is exploding with action and a joy to play. It’s truly a blockbuster action movie that you are controlling. This game needs to be played by everyone with a pulse. If you missed this one, the definitive edition still holds up graphically and is often on sale. What are you waiting for?

We end every episode of Game Bites with Anthony (even if he is not on the episode) so let’s do the same with our first Game Club.

Sleeping Dogs delivers on a long running fantasy of mine: playing a 1:1 recreation of a turn of the century action flick. It perfectly blends the humor, heart, and stakes of movies like Rush Hour, Police Story, The Fast and The Furious, and Lethal Weapon, without sacrificing an infinitely satisfying game loop. I can’t believe I missed out on this easy 10/10 for so long. Thanks for the lead, Brian! BYYyyyeeeeeee…
