Book Review: The Second Chance Year
Book: The Second Chance Year
Author: Melissa Wiesner
I started 2024 with my first read being The Second Chance Year and I am so happy that I did! I couldn’t get enough of this book. I loved all the characters and I felt very connected to them.
Sadie was having an awful year and on New Year’s Eve she went to a carnival-themed party. There was a fortune teller there and she wished to redo this year over. Sadie ends the bad year by kissing her brother’s best friend Jacob.
Fast forward to the next morning, she wakes up and finds out her wish was granted and she gets a second chance to fix her terrible year. She tries to do things a little differently hoping for a better outcome this time around.
Sadie realizes that she has the power to change the course of her life. I loved her confidence and that she stood up for herself in many situations. I also loved Jacob so much! He was such a good main character. I loved seeing Sadie fall in love with him.
The story also has one of the best found families I’ve read. Higher Grounds is a coffee shop/bakery and all the characters there were so likable.
I highly recommend this book, especially if you like magical realism and/or time travel! It is so cute and I promise you won’t want to put it down.
It is also the perfect time of year to read this book!
