The Neighbors We Want had an interesting plot line that failed to fully grab me. Adam, a stay-at-home dad developed an obsession with his neighbor Ali. One night he sees her ex-boyfriend in her house and then finds out that Ali may have disappeared. This made me think of The Woman in the Window and got me excited but it was nothing like that. This book is filled with unlikeable characters who are not good people.

Most of the reasons these characters are not good people lean into spoilers so I won’t say them. I will just give one that is not a spoiler, Adam is a stay-at-home dad because he got fired from his job for looking at porn. Great guy.

What I respect about this book is it never got over-the-top crazy. The plot points and the twists were all practical. None of them were mind-blowing. With the exception of one major reveal, all of the secrets were something that regular people (regular people who are not good people) could experience.
