Thank you, NetGalley and Bookouture Audio, for an advanced audio copy.
The Liar I Married was precisely the book I needed right now. I have been in a bit of a reading rut and haven’t been getting sucked into any books. Finally, I was sucked in and transported to the believable world that D.K. Hood put together.
Jessie was in a car accident and was in a coma for a year. Her life support was turned off, and she was expected to die. Jesse did the unthinkable and not only survived but started to recover.
The night of the accident and what led up to it was a haze, and slowly, Jesse started to remember bits and pieces of what happened.
Once she was awake, Jesse was given a note that said not to trust anyone. It seemed a few people would have a lot to gain if Jesse were to die. I loved the allure around this mystery.
The obvious suspect and the person that Jesse focuses on the most is her husband, John. I loved how hard to read he was. I was never able to gauge whether I trusted him or not fully.
I was so invested in this book that I sprinted to the finish. The only thing holding me back from five stars was the lead-up to the ending. I felt that this was a little too easy to figure out. Once I did, I expected something else. That something else never came. I don’t think you always need that something extra, but in this case, the major reveals came a little too early that I felt the ending was missing something.
Overall, this is a fantastic book, and it has successfully sucked me in and broken me out of my dry spell.
Final score: 4/5
