Book: The Deadlands Trapped

Author: Skye Melki-Wegner

Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for an advanced audio copy.

Earlier this year I was taken by surprise with the release of the first book in The Deadlands series. I loved it and called it a more mature Land Before Time. When I received the second book I was more excited than I should have been since I am not the target audience, but I didn’t care about that. A good story is a good story no matter who the target is. That continues with the second entry into this series, The Deadlands: Trapped.

The story continues to follow Eleri and his group of exiles as they try to expose a huge conspiracy and save their kingdom. I can’t stress how good the writing is for there to be such character development when the characters are anthropomorphic dinosaurs. You really grow a bond with these characters and you forget they are dinosaurs at some points, which to me is an amazing feat.

The exiles have all made mistakes toward each other but this story is really about overcoming those mistakes and differences and supporting each other. It’s a great message and it really shines in this story.

Selfishly I wanted more from this entry but that’s only because I didn’t want it to end. Eleri is going to have to have a showdown with his brother and I wanted that now. I’m sure it will come and I’m sure it will be epic and worth the wait.

I can not wait until the third entry, until then make sure to check out this book and the first entry into this amazing series.

Final score: 5/5
