Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for an advanced audio copy.
This is a review of the audio copy, I feel like it’s never a good thing when I have to specify and that’s the case here too. This is one of the few times I wish I read a book instead of listening to it.
I really enjoyed the story. Calista returns to her hometown of Aspen Lake after the passing of her brother-in-law so she can help with her niece Quinn. Unfortunately, not many people are happy with Calista’s return. Even though his passing is tragic you find out that Quinn’s dad was not a great person or father, but his brother Tristrian was great at stepping in. Tristian also happens to be Calista’s ex who she wants nothing to do with.
The story revolves around Quinn helping her uncle Tristian come up with a plan to win back Calista. Quinn is a fantastic character and she was definitely my favorite. I like Tristian and Calista but Quinn stole all the scenes she was in.
I was pulling for both Calista and Tristian to find happiness. I loved how this one came together in the end.
The biggest issue for me was Wayne Mitchell’s narration. This was a dual POV and I was so much more invested in Calista’s POV simply because of the narration. Wayne did voices for other characters which were bad enough that it pulled you right out of the story. His normal voice was tough too. He put inflections in strange parts of words and it was just hard to focus on what he was saying. I hate when this happens and I really hate to not like someone’s work. This is a book I recommend you read and not listen to.
Final score: 4/5
