Book Review: Karma’s a Beach
Book: Karma’s a Beach
Author: Samantha Chase
Thank you, NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for an advanced audio copy.
Samantha Chase has become an instant read author for me recently. With her new Lakeview Harbor series and just other books by her that I have read, everyone seems to be a hit. Karma’s a Beach is her weakest book that I have read, but it’s still better than most like it.
The premise and overall plot were what was lacking for me. Chase’s character development and writing are what make this weaker plot a good book.
Olivia “Liv” has been asked to write a eulogy for her ex-boyfriend by her ex’s mom. It’s an awkward situation that she didn’t know how to say no to. Flying home, she is having a rough travel day and is still trying to write the eulogy. She gets help from her seatmate, Sebastian, and can finish the eulogy and survive her travel day.
Turns out that Sebastian is “Ash,” her ex-roommate. Liv and Ash get close quickly, and this was my real issue with this book. It’s hard to discuss without spoilers, so all I will say is that Liv was silly, and there was virtually no conflict. I was not as invested as I wanted since everything seems so easy for them.
Samantha Chase will continue to be an instant read for me. I look forward to whatever she will put out next.
Final score: 3/5
