Savannah Scott’s Getting Shipped series is one of my favorite small-town romance series so I was so excited to see a new book by her. I liked He’s So Not My Valentine but it didn’t fully grab me like her Getting Shipped series did.
This is a standalone sequel that takes place in the town from the series Sweater Weather. The book follows Heather who is a single mom running a coffee shop. Her brother-in-law’s best friend Rene comes to visit from France and Heather immediately feels something and sees sparks but she thinks it’s just his flirty personality. I liked Heather and Rene together but I felt it was all too predictable. Nothing surprised me and the story did not take any chances.
Rene lives in France, Heather lives in South Carolina, and there was never a question of how they would end up together. I would call it foreshadowing but that is too obvious, one character even spells out the ending for you before it happens.
That may sound like a harsh criticism but that’s only because I love Scott’s writing and was just expecting more. This is still a great rom-com with very strong characters that you should check out.
Final score: 4/5
