Book: For the Record

Author: Emma Lord

Thank you, NetGalley and Macmillan Audio, for an advanced audio copy.

After reading Begin Again by Emma Lord, I felt so strongly about her storytelling that I knew she would always be an instant read for me. I lost that spark with her after a few of her last releases, but with For the Record, the spark is back, and I can’t wait for what comes next.

This story highlighted the trials and tribulations faced by a singer when their band breaks up, including struggles with the industry, issues with their representatives, and personal problems that could impact their music. It effectively highlights all these issues for two different people in two different situations.

Mackenzie and Sam have a complicated past, which makes their present just as complex. I loved watching them navigate the media circus that can follow celebrities while trying to juggle everyday life.

Both musicians stepped away from the public eye for different reasons. I resonated more with Sam and liked his character a lot more than Mackenzie, but together they were perfect.

I’m so happy that this book sparked my interest again in Emma Lord’s books. She is genuinely a fantastic storyteller.

Final score: 4/5
