Book: Final Descent

Author: Audrey J. Cole

Thank you, NetGalley and Spotify Audiobooks, for an advanced audio copy.

Final Descent is a short and fast thrill ride. This short story had me hooked from the start and kept me guessing throughout.

Claire is an airline pilot and single mom who is recovering from a mental breakdown. She goes out on a date with Evan, who seems great at first. He looked like his pictures and was charming. His temper shows, and the date ends quickly.

Claire then begins to see Evan everywhere. Outside her house, at her daughter’s school, at a random hotel, and then finally in the cockpit with her on her flight home.

Claire is afraid she is going crazy, and as the reader, you don’t know what to believe. The suspense is incredible, and it’s just an ongoing feeling of dread as the reader knows that either outcome sucks for Claire. She’s either crazy or someone crazy is stalking her.

Cole, being the daughter of a pilot, really nails the flight aspect of this story. She nails the flight scenes as well as TJ Newman, whom I have said has unparalleled talent in that regard.

This short story should fly to the top of your list. I will say it’s going to be next to impossible not to finish this in one sitting.

Final Score: 5/5
