A Merry Little Lie is a charming, cozy Christmas book for anyone who dreads getting together with family for the holidays. Family gatherings can be stressful, and so can the holidays. That’s where this book will shine for some, but for me, it was a little too heavy with negativity for the majority of the book.
The story is told from the point of view of multiple family members as they embark on their adventure back home for the holidays. I had a hard time focusing since there were so many story threads. I would have rathered a shorter story that concentrates on just one of the four couples. Having four storylines in a normal-sized book, you can’t help but feel parts of it get a little rushed.
I love holiday books, and I do feel the holiday theme was perfect. That was my favorite part of the book. From the settings to the way the holidays were discussed, this was the strongest part.
This was my first book by the author, but it won’t be my last. I may not have had the best experience with this one, but I’m excited to try another.
Final Score: 3/5
