Taste Like Candy is a perfect throwback to slasher movies from before the year 2000. Growing up in the 80s and 90s, those movies were my childhood. They were nightmare fuel to me, and I loved it. Honestly, rewatching them as an adult, I don’t know what scared me, as most of them are pretty humorous. That’s the part that Taste Like Candy does best; it really captures the dark humor aspect of these stories.

One thing most slasher movies have in common is an opening violent kill. That happens here, but it felt drawn out and took forever to get there. Once we got there, we were treated to a fun and violent rampage that continued all the way to the predictable conclusion.

The story takes place during a senior scavenger hunt at a carnival. A group of girls are getting picked off one by one. Some kills were just so over the top you couldn’t help but gasp and laugh at the same time.

This is the perfect book to check out this spooky season, especially if you’re a fan and have a soft spot for old-school slasher movies.

Final Score: 4/5
