Love & Other Killers is a stand-alone novella in the Ruinous Love Trilogy. I loved the trilogy, so I was excited for this. The author states this is a standalone, and you do not need knowledge of the trilogy, but it will help, especially if you read the first book.
If you’re not familiar, everyone is a serial killer in this series. Most use their powers for good, but they are still serial killers. In this story, the family goes on a hunt for a crazy killer to murder them. The POV of the book is from Sloane, who is one of the main characters in the first book, Butcher and Blackbird. Unfortunately, that was my least favorite book in the series, so I wish it had followed any of the others.
Since this is a short story and a standalone, some exposition would not not have been necessary if it were part of the series. I would have rather this be part of the series, where the reader is expected to know these characters, so we don’t waste precious pages in a short story on explanations.
Overall, this was entertaining but also unnecessary. If you love the series or are just a completist, then definitely check this one out.
